New PostDoc Position
Harvard Postdoctoral Fellowship in Time Series Analysis
A postdoctoral position is available for an outstanding individual capable of taking a leading role in research on the analysis of scientific time series. The position is co-funded by the IIC Time Series Center at Harvard and by a recent NSF grant supporting Interdisciplinary Machine Learning Research and Education .
The Fellow will work directly with Dr. Pavlos Protopapas and the Time Series Center group at the Initiative in Innovative Computing (IIC) at Harvard and the Tufts machine learning group headed by Profs. Carla Brodley and Roni Khardon.
A particular focus will be the upcoming astronomical survey called Pan-STARRS1. Pan-STARRS (the Panoramic Survey Telescope and Rapid Response System) is a panoramic sky survey that can cover the whole sky in one week, revealing unprecedented numbers of new transient objects. The postdoc will work closely with astronomers at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics and the other Pan-STARRS partners working in transient object science.
The project aims to make significant contributions to the application areas through basic research in machine learning and data analysis—for example, developing algorithms to automatically classify objects. Other applications in time series analysis from other sciences and medicine are also pursued as part of this highly interdisciplinary project. The Fellow will be expected to participate in international conferences and publish results in top conferences and journals.
A Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Astronomy or closely related field is required. We are looking for a candidate with a strong background and ability to perform original research in machine learning and strong understanding and/or interest in Astronomy. A background in time series analysis, signal processing, and statistical pattern recognition is a plus.
Applications should be sent by email to helene_tingle@harvard.edu.The material should include a curriculum vita, a list of publications, a brief summary of research, and three letters of recommendation.Last Updated at: 2008-11-10 09:31 PM.
